What is ICSI?
Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) is a specialised form of IVF that has helped increase the rate of fertilisation. It involves injecting a single sperm directly into the egg. The process of ICSI involves the following steps,
- After ovarian stimulation, the mature eggs are retrieved from the uterus.
- Sperm is collected and separated from the semen in the lab.
- The best sperm is selected for the procedure.
- The selected sperm is directly injected into the egg in our safe lab setting for fertilisation.
- The fertilised egg is transplanted back to the uterus for implantation.

Initial Consultation and Evaluation
Thorough evaluation of the couple’s health is performed before initiating treatment by the fertility experts
Ovarian Stimulation
The ovaries are stimulated with fertility hormones that help produce several mature eggs to boost the success rate and prevent errors.
Egg Retrieval
Once the eggs are mature, they are retrieved from the ovaries. This procedure is usually done under sedation to minimise discomfort.
Sperm Retrieval
The male partner’s sperm is collected either by ejaculation or other retrieval methods like TESA.
Insemination
A single best sperm is selected and manually injected into the mature egg by an ICSI expert. Fertilisation is evaluated about 16 to 18 hours after insemination.
Development of Embryo
The fertilised eggs or the embryos are carefully monitored for 5 to 6 days to evaluate their development.
Transfer of Embryo
One or more of the developed embryos are transferred to the uterus using a catheter for implantation.
Post-Transfer Care
For about two weeks after transfer, medicines may be suggested to support implantation. A pregnancy test is then performed to confirm the results.
Follow-Up Care
Irrespective of the pregnancy test result, a follow-up consultation is essential to plan the next step with your doctor.
